Karan Sumbaly, Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer, Rio Tinto Iron Ore
Karan has been working in the industrial automation industry for more than 10 years, covering project management, design, engineering and commissioning of electrical and control systems.
He joined Rio Tinto in September 2006, working initially on process control strategy for optimisation and management of process plants.
Karan's current role involves providing technical expertise whilst managing the electrical/controls engineering team for Rio Tinto’s biggest iron ore minesite, Yandicoogina.
Karan is currently working on developing autonomous TLO, reclaimer optimisation systems etc at Yandi for RTIO. Karan is also versed in utilising six sigma analysis to present business cases. Further interests lie in design and behaviour of autonomous plants, for optimal performance and design of maintenance strategies.
