Atlas Iron Audio Excerpt: Strategies for Effective Crisis Communication

About this Podcast...

In May 2013, Mining IQ hosted our 7th annual Mine Rescue and Emergency Management conference in Brisbane, Australia. In this excerpt, Peter discusses the notion of "noise" in crisis communications during mine emergencies and appropriate communication channels and content. Communication in a crisis is so important for employees, customers and colleagues, plus of course friends, families and stakeholders. Peter has a lot of experience in emergency response and communications, working at Atlas Iron since 2013, prior to that at Fortecue Metals Group and almost 15 years with the WA Ambulance Service in a variety of roles.

Peter's full presentation covered:

  • Key elements of communication and why they are so important during a crisis
  • Difference between good and bad communication and does it make a difference?
  • Who are your key stakeholders? And how should each be communicated with?
  • The media, friend or foe?

If you'd like to see Peter's presentation, you can access it here on Mining IQ.
